Relaxing at Darling Harbour

Posted by Andrew Gould (Sydney, Australia) on 7 April 2008 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

This is just behind the Sydney city centre, part of which you can see in the background here. It's a major entertainment area, with a lot of places to eat. There are regular cultural and music events held here, such as the Indonesion festival that was actually why I went down there on Saturday.

The Indonesion festival was in the park, which you can't see here. If you could walk out of this photo to the right, you'd be there in a few minutes.

A while back, I posted a few photos from the Japanese Summer Festival in this place. That was more satisfying for me from the photograpic point of view because they had it along the piece of waterfront that you can see here in the foreground, continuing out of the picture to the left. It was much more visual, really.

I do have a few photos that I could show of the Indonesion festival, though, and will post one or two soon.

By the way, you may notice that there is some lens distortion here. I've done the best I can fixing this in Photoshop with persperctive correction and the lens correction filter. There were multiple problems, and it was a compromise.

I'm extremely happy with this zoom that does just about everything for me, but I may get myself a prime wide angle in the future, if I can find one with less barrel distortion than this zoom at its wide end. It's only a problem with verticals, though, and I can usually fix it quite easily, although occasionally it's more complicated, as in this case.
