Taken yesterday in the Sydney city centre (14th of April 2008) shortly before that day's photo. Very rarely have I come across two such interesting subjects within less than half an hour, when walking round the city streets. And again, this seemed to work so much better in black and white.

Hi Andrew, I seem to be playing catch up with your blog, will be back for another look later this evening :) Two fantastic b&w images. I love the composition of this, a little man in a big man's world.

I love the black and white here! The framing is so intriguing and makes the viewer want more. Fantastic work!

Could write a screenplay based on this one image, Andrew . . it screams out like suddenly waking up in the big city!

I really like this shot as it tells so much about the moment and the people. I also like the B&W treatment and I was just asking someone else as to what makes them decide that B&W is a better choice than color, and similarly - what technique is best to use to create B&W images. Again - very nice photograph!

@Emilio Garcia: Thanks for the comment. I use black and white when I see that colour causes certain details to be intrusive. In Photshop CS3 you go to Image -- Adjustments -- Black and White. This gives really rich tones straight off, and allows fine adjustment, too. Before CS3, I used to use the Channel Mixer, which is also under Adjustments. Here you uncheck the Monochrome box. The latter method can produce very good results too, after making some adjustments, although I prefer the first way. You can also go Image -- Mode -- Gray Scale, but this simply discards all colour information and does not give any way to fine tune the results.
Brilliant Andrew - love it

What I like about this is that it opens outward instead of closing the subject. That is, it gives us the platform from which we can imagine a variety of stories that happened both before and after this photo was taken. Well done.
