This was where we had coffee, etc, on Friday night (23th of April 2008) in Newtown, Sydney. It's a very lively area at night, with dozens of restaurants and cafes, as well as quite a few bookshops that are open late.
While sitting in this cafe, I was thinking that this end of Newtown (Enmore Rd) has become a bit like San Francisco's Haight Ashbury district in appearance over the last few years, although the other end (King St, out of view in the background) is more what I would call more mainstream, although it does have a distinctive flavour about it. I love these "street scenes" ... they speak volumes about life in other parts of the world (and in this part of the world ... for that matter)! Looks like it may be a bit tough to find a parking spot ... just like the Haight!

@Ron: Thanks. I love taking them. And yes, it is hard to park. Have to go way down the back streets.
looks like a great place to hang out and watch people walk by, i also love street scenes.

@alex centrella: It really is a great place for that, and there are some very good restaurants there, too.

Great shot, I like the slice of Sydney life, pretty much like Cape Town.

@Graham Russon: Thanks. I like that "slice of life" idea because that was really my aim, when I think about it.
Buzz bars! Wow that takes me back...I remember buzz bars! Cool shot.

@Margie: So there's actually a type of place callled a buzz bar? I didn't know that. I thought it was only the name of this one place.
Ah, upscale bohemian - not a contradiction in terms, but a cultural fusion! It looks like a fun place, and the blur is just part of the party feeling :)

@Ken McCoy: Yes, it is a fun place, and a great one for street photography opportunities (as I've tried to show). I was waiting for the blurring to be mentioned. I'm also happy with this as part of the effect, so thanks.
