Darwin waterfront

This is from the 14th of July, but it is only today that I've been able to get online to post during this 10 day trip to the north of Australia.

I'm now in Cairns, north Queensland, and will be back in Sydney on Wednesday this week. I'll then be posting more regularly and will be able to make return visits to your pages.

Fantastic, yes it looks like an image fit for a tourism magazine, it is that inviting...you say you're in Cairns/ really that guy to the left, it could be Ben...if you run across Ben Hay, tell him I want his 'Henry the Adequate' blog back! bugger left without warning

Another marvelous slice of life, you've captured the moment perfectly. As pointed out, it does look like an ad, with all the elements in the right place at the right time.

This is very Edward Hopper-ish! And I like Graham's description -- this is indeed a beautiful 'slice' of life! Never made it to Darwin, but of course it is certainly high on the list the next time i get down to Oz. Welcome back! :)

@dj.tigersprout: Thanks, DJ. I didn't know of Edward Hopper, but I looked him up on Google images, and I see what you mean. Then was no deliberate manipulation here, by the way. Basically, all I did was to attempt to preserve the full tonal range of the strong tropical light from highlights to shadows in Adobe RAW. As far the poses are concerned, I had a good vantage point from the table where we were having lunch on this wharf, and I ended up with a number of shots to choose from.

@Ronnie 2¢: It was a great place to have our first lunch in Darwin. Dry season, but around 30 degrees C. We were in the shade, though.

@Emilio Garcia: Thanks, Emilio. As I've said in my reply to DJ, above, I had a good vantage point from the table where we were having lunch. I also had the luxury of time, taking quite a few shots over about 10 minutes.

Very good! In a pamphlet on Darwin it would have a fantastic impact on the possible tourists! Those clouds are so.....photogenic!

I love this shot - it seems purposefully staged and enacted, with the two separate action tableaux of the people and the empty third table - it only the bird were completely visible it would be perfect! As it is, it's pretty close :)

@Ken McCoy: Thanks, Ken. When I was looking through the viewfinder, I saw that it had this potential for it to look staged -- just like your theatre scenes, that I'm hoping we're going to see more of in the future.
