Aboriginal dancer - 1

Now back to last month's trip to the north of Australia. This was taken in Kuranda, north Queensland. These dancers were performing in the street, and the challenge was to not include any distracting background.

I think that the photo turned out great... when I first become interested in the Aboriginal culture and aware of it was when I was in Primary School and they had some of the guys there dancing etc... it was very interesting...

great capture here Andrew, i am loving this series! although i noticed your ISO is at 500? was the location originally darker? did you slight underexpose? i would be very interested to know, thanks! :)

@dj.tigersprout: Thanks, DJ, and sorry about the late reply. I've just checked the EXIF information. No underexposure, although I do have the camera set on what is called Highlight Tone Priority. This biases the exposure towards capturing good highlight detail, although shadows can be deeper. With the 350D, I used to habitually underexpose in high contrast situations, but now I do it less. As far as the 500 ISO's concerned, I can't remember now, but perhaps I did lighten the overall exposure a bit.

CORRECTION: I now realise that I was looking at the TIFF and not the original RAW file when i wrote the above. I can now tell you that the RAW image does indeed look darker. It looks too dark, and that's why I increased the exposure before converting to TIFF, although I had forgotten about that.
