Moon festival

Taken last Saturday at the Market City shopping centre which is right beside Chinatown, here in Sydney. A lucky day, as I had no idea that they were celebrating this festival.

I put these together in the free program, Photofiltre. Both shots: Canon 40D, f6.3, 200mm (= 300mm in 35mm format), 1600 ISO. Left: 1/160 sec. Right: 1/200 sec. (Aperture prefered semi auto accounts for the change here.)

In case anyone's curious about the viewpoint used, I took these from the floor above, looking down. It's one those places where the centre of the building is open.

Andrew - these are fantastic shots. I can't believe the ISO setting you have used! After seeing this, I can't wait to try it out (have never had the guts to try that high a setting before - just goes to show - if you don't try it, you will never know!) - I just can't believe the lack of noise! And we've got the same camera - so thank you!

@dobbino: Thanks, Rob. These (as usual) were from RAW files, processed in Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop CS3, using the default setting for colour noise, and a modest amount of luminence noise reduction applied as well. I did give the resulting TIFF a little selective noise reduction in PS, too. This was in the shadow area on the arms and back, where it did look a little grainy, although ai think I could have got away with out doing this. In some shots, though, I find that I don't need to do anything at all about the noise, as it's really not that visible. Good luck with your high ISO experiments!

beautiful shots here Andrew -- i celebrated the Moon Festival in Japan way back in 95... it was one of the highlights of the 3 week trip, but strangely i have never again heard of this festival until this shot -- thank you for bringing this memory back! beautifully done!
