In Botany Bay

Posted by Andrew Gould (Sydney, Australia) on 1 February 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Since we've moved, I'm down here at Brighton Beach on this bay virtually every day at some hour, as it's a little more than across the road for me. There are other beaches in Sydney where there's more to photograph because there are surfers, lots of tourists and plenty of beach activity. The miles and miles of beach round Botany Bay generally attract less people, making it really relaxing for walking, but more of a challenge in coming up with interesting images, in my opinion. Because of this, I'm always quite literally looking for a new angle on things. This was taken late afternoon on the 1st of Feb.

There seems to be almost always a ship at the bay entrance, waiting to enter the oil refinery area, which is out of sight here. You can see a wider view for context in this previous post:

In case anyone asks, the red cable appears to be covering a restricted area for boats while pipes are being laid for a desalination plant that wil be on the far shore. It looks close here due to the telephoto effect, but is actually a long way out. The netted area is part of a sharkproof swimming enclose.

I would like to keep in touch with members of the aminus3 community.
